Our Programs
We offer programs that are directed by children’s interests and the School’s themes. Our programs include devotions, structured and unstructured play, craft, games, music, art, cooking, homework, computers, problem solving, creativity, alone time and interaction with others. We have a fortnightly theme and offer specific activities based on the theme as well as general activities.
Children are encouraged to try new things, but are also welcome to choose those activities that suit their interests and needs.
• We provide breakfast in our Before School Programs and afternoon tea in our After School Programs. Afternoon tea consists of fruit and a snack from the ‘Healthy Together’, Victoria program. To enhance each child’s strengths, abilities and self-esteem through the knowledge and understanding of God.
• Before School Care
• After School Care
• Vacation Care
• Wholly staffed by Christians, including at the centres, operations and front office
• Chaplaincy – Offering council from a faith based for both students and parents
• Daily Devotions at all sessions
Educational programs
• The service incorporates a “thematic programming” model of operation where each center’s planning is based around a fortnightly focus topic which is incorporated into devotional time, craft and play. Areas of development and learning that the center’s program include are Moral, Social, Physical, Creative, Cognitive and Emotional.
• The program encourages children to participate in play. Fortnightly programs are always used as a reference and staff understand and value the importance of guided play. Staff work to gain feedback from children through positive interaction and participation. Staff are always open to both planned and spontaneous activities as suggested by the children. Staff endeavor to involve children in all topic choices and love hearing suggestions of what a future focus topic should be. Children are always encouraged to initiate, create and explore. Physical development is always incorporated into the fortnightly program and where possible, outdoor play is offered daily. Staff encourage inclusive play when involved in both indoor and outdoor activities.
Devotions
• The centre’s ‘Devotion’ and ‘Together Time’ promotes a culture of quiet time and allows students to refocus at the end of the day and to thank God in all things.
• During devotion time, staff ask open-ended questions and challenge children to predict, hypothesise, explain, reason and share their opinions in these discussions. The program also consistently provides opportunities for children to create an aesthetically pleasing OSHC environment by assisting staff and making suggestions for regular displays of artwork.
• Staff treat children positively and understand each child’s individual needs regarding behaviour triggers, temperament, competencies, cultural backgrounds and individual interests. Staff communicate with children using verbal and non-verbal techniques, physical expressions, and key words & phrases to maintain consistency in the children’s behavior. One of our favourites is when staff say: “1, 2, 3, Eyes on Me” and children respond with “1, 2, Eyes on You.”
• Staff role model and work with children at their level to extend their skills and encourage participation. Staff do not take over where a child is experiencing difficulty, but rather they guide, contribute, instruct and assist where possible - encouraging the child to work through the problem proactively. Staff share positive information with families about interesting initiatives taken by the children within the program and at home.
